In talking with a client this week, she realized that she had options for activity: working with her trainer, taking a spin class with others, enjoying a long but brisk walk with her dogs, or walking the golf course. Another client realized that she needed to make an appointment with herself on days she didn’t work with her trainer. But she also needed to report to someone each day about her activity plan- and what she actually did. She committed to email/text me with her intention, and I committed to encourage her in my reply AND contact her if she didn’t get to me first! We are not doing this accountability forever- we’re starting with one day at a time.
What else you can do to help your body adjust to increased activity level?
Commit to increasing your activity level. Know WHY you are making this commitment. Typically new actions don’t last very long if you are doing them for someone else, or have been told that you need to make the change. Know why YOU are making this commitment. If you need to talk this through with someone, please feel free to give me a call.
Make a plan. Brainstorm about your options. Evaluate the feasibility of each one. Choose one or two that you will actually do!
Schedule your work-out time. Are you a morning exercise person? Then plan to get out of bed and exercise. Are you an after-work exercise person? Then prepare to engage in activity by bringing appropriate clothes, scheduling the time, having snacks, etc.
Connect to a coach, accountability partner, buddy. Studies have confirmed that those who are accountable to someone have a much higher rate of success in continuing with a program. When we lived in Louisville, I was a buddy to Susan. The hitch was that because she had 4 children under the age of 7 at the time, we had to exercise before her husband left for work. I had to pick her up at 6 am and we went together to the gym. I was EXTREMELY faithful because I knew Susan had made the same commitment I had. She was waiting for me to give her a ride!
Execute your plan. Just do it!
Evaluate. If the details aren’t working, don’t chuck your commitment, rather change your plan, or your coach! Then regroup, and start again. You haven’t failed until you don’t get up and re-start.
Since you have made the commitment and the plan, why not get the most out of your workout? When I was preparing for my first running event in 2000, I decided to test our sports nutrition products, Empact and Sport. I was impressed that with minimal training, I competed without difficulty, in fact beyond my expectation! I used the products before, during and after the events as I competed in the Triple Crown of Running in 2000-2002, a total of 9 events ( I have the T-shirts and medals to prove it!). I have also used the products on a regular basis since 2002 in a variety of scenarios. I have found that they are safe (no harmful side-effects), effective, and affordable! I have also learned that our sports nutrition products are on the accepted list for Olympic athletes: they contain no banned substances at all!
Below are my product suggestions if you are considering nutritional support for your increased activity.
EMPACT powder: For energy and stamina during events, performances, work-outs; lets you work-out harder and longer; dissolves in water, pleasant slight lemon flavor.
SPORT: capsules: for post-workout/performances; assists in removal of lactic acid; short-term and more immediate relief of muscle soreness and stiffness.
BOUNCEBACK: capsules; for long-term benefit of Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness; reduces or eliminates aches and pains! This product is one I take on a daily basis. My 90 yr old mom takes it as well: she calls it ‘rebound,’ and makes sure that she doesn’t run out of it!
OSOLEAN powder: for fat-burning benefit; helps preserve lean muscle mass while increasing your fat-burning metabolism; especially helpful to reduce abdominal fat; provides 25 mg Calcium (22% of MDR) and 10 gr protein (20% of MDR) per serving; provides a feeling of satiety when taken about 20 minutes before breakfast and dinner.
You can order any of these products through your own Mannatech account, on a one-time order or a recurring order (and save an additional10%), or by setting up an account at mymannapages.com/mkd. If you need assistance, please don’t hesitate to call/text me at 614.804.0291.
